Optimum Nutrition 2:1:1 Recovery Post Workout Powder Review
I received my bottle of Recovery a couple days ago and I decided I would write a little review since there has not been much discussion about this product.

Forumla: Overall I really like this formula. I don't really care about the whole 2:1:1 ratio thing, but you really can't argue the ingredient profile in this product. The mix of different proteins, the carbs, and especially the BCAA's. Although I am not really sure about the fructose, I still say this is a very solid formula, and ON tells you EXACTLY what is in it.
9/10
Taste: I got the choclate flavor and I have to say I am very pleased. I hear the mango is outstanding but I don't really like to get to wild when it comes to flavors, especially for proteins. The best way I can describe is ON's Rich Double Choclate for 100% Whey but a bit more thicker and creamier. Although I prefer the Whey choclate flavor, this flavor is still very good.
8/10
Mixability: No problem mixing at all. I use my blender bottle and mixes everything fine. Although there were a few little particles there were no major issues with mixing.
9/10
Price: $45 dollars is a bit pricey for a 20 day serving and I don't think I will be getting this on a regular basis, however this is a solid product and if I had the money to spend I would make it a staple.
7/10
Overall: This product has everything you want in a PWO shake. It has your a mix of proteins, a mix of carbs, and of course your BCAA's. There really isn't anything else you could ask for in a PWO shake and I personally like the fact that there is NO creatine in it. When it comes to a company like ON, you really can't go wrong.
9/10

I am considering trying this product now after reading your review. I actually haven’t tried an ON product yet. Thanks much.
By the way, any recommendations for an MRP?
bb.com sells this for $36 for 30 servings (dunno how you got 20
). So it’s not too bad. A little over a buck per serving.
been taking 2:1:1 for about 2-3 weeks now, 2 scoops pwo, and I think it’s awesome. The taste and ingredients are probably the best I’ve ever had in any one single pwo supplement, great product, chocolate tastes insane with just water, definitely buying again, optimum‘s always on top.

Any other opinions on this? Right now I am taking 100% optimum whey and to me it seems a bit more cost effect. It has 6g (roughly) of bcaa and 5g of glutamine whereas i don’t see that recovery has any glutamine. The only thing lacking in my 100% ON whey is the carbs which I need to usually makeup else where for the pwo, i’ll either mix in oatmeal or maltodextrin.
like the fact that the 2:1:1 says it has the proper ratio of what I need, but it seems like it has less protein per scoop, although according to them its better to have the right division of multiple proteins rather then 1 large one.
It also doesn’t seem too cost effective to me. It appears to be more expensive for 3.75lbs and 30 servings if you do 1 scoop. 1 scoop only containing 17g of protein and no glutamine (i think) vs 100% whey which is 24g of protein and 77 servings per 1 scoop in a 5lb jug. Although its lacking the carbs. You could always fill those carbs with a more cost effective product like oatmeal in bulk or maybe maltodextrin for the fast carbs.
I can’t seem to win, I was looking at the ON Max but it doens’t contain any BCAA’s does it? It has the missing glutamine that I seek in recovery.
It seems to me that this is more of a niche product that your paying for the right ratio of stuff and your paying quite a premium for it. Further thoughts?
right now im doing the raspberry rush with 2 tbsp of CGT wild berry, tastes great and my recovery is outstanding! great company and since i work at where i buy it, im not complaining about price lol
I’m just finishing my first jug of 2:1:1. It was Mucho Mango. At first I wasn’t a big fan of the taste, but after the third day of taking it it was a nice change from the usual chocolate or vanilla. I’m starting my jug of Raspberry. So far, so good. I’ve personally seen some real gains since I started taking 2:1:1. I was always horrible about taking a post workout drink. 2:1:1 definitely makes it easier for me to manage my diet. It’s on my list of supplements that I will never workout without again.
